"The Places You lot Have Come to Fear the Almost" is the second episode of the first season of One Tree Hill and the second produced episode of the series. It was broadcast on September 30, 2003. Lucas blows his first Varsity game and decides to quit the team. The wedge between Nathan and Peyton continues to grow after Peyton tires of Nathan'due south jabs at Lucas. Meanwhile, Keith forces Karen to deal with her feelings for Dan afterward she refuses to stride foot in the high school gym to back up her son.

Synopsis
Brooke and Peyton discuss Lucas.
It'due south Lucas' commencement game since he became part of the Tree Hill Ravens. The game is confronting Verona and his friends (Junk, Fergie, Rima oris, & Jimmy) have decided they are coming to see him. Although he wasn't sure he wanted them to, Skills told him that they were coming because Lucas' victory over Nathan was a win for all of them. However, Lucas' mom, Karen, said that she couldn't become, using the cafe as an excuse. Karen said she needed the extra business at the cafe so she had to keep it open, remaining adamant about it even after Keith attempted to persuade her. Without Karen, Keith and Haley left to see the game.
Before the game, Dan gives Nathan a pep talk about not letting Lucas score. In the locker room, he & Tim Smith glare at Lucas like he'southward the enemy when Whitey Durham calls for "Scott" and wants Lucas instead of Nathan.
In his part, Whitey gives Lucas his Ravens' Jersey - he plays as number three and his surname 'Scott' written higher up it. As he is almost to get onto the courtroom, Rima oris and Jimmy interrupt them for an exclusive interview for their website ravenshoops.com. After the game, Nathan and Peyton are in their auto and are kissing, but Nathan's mind is distracted past his own entertainment well-nigh Lucas' poor performance. He calls Peyton out for having a shell on Lucas. Dan studies Lucas on the recording of this night's game. Upon arriving domicile, Nathan is told by his Dad to play better and that even though he scored 28 points he could have washed better. Nathan lashes out at Dan and tells him he understands why his mother Deb is always on 'extended business concern trips.'

In the motorcar, Lucas asks her, why is she a cheerleader? Peyton tells him that if she says she likes cheerleading she is only similar every other stereotype, and if she says she doesn't like it, she is a liar and a fraud; it is a lose/lose situation. Lucas gives Peyton a elevator dwelling and she asks if he wants to come in. Lucas follows Peyton to the door, just she says she wasn't inviting him, she was asking him if he wanted to.

The following day, before Lucas leaves, Karen tells Lucas she can't become back considering of Dan, because that is where Dan chose to leave her. This gives Lucas the initiative to hand Peyton's work into Thud magazine without her knowing every bit Haley looks on from the cafe annals, proud.

Lucas looks to Dan as he walks onto the courtroom and turns to reveal he has taken his surname 'Scott' off his bailiwick of jersey and he begins to play.
